VOLUSIA DEPUTIES SEARCHING FOR MISSING 77-YEAR-OLD MAN

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in locating a 77-year-old man who drove away from his house near Edgewater early Monday morning and has failed to return home. William Truax drove away from his house at 3109 Carmie Drive at about 4 a.m. Monday morning, headed to a local laundry business that he frequents. Truax -- who suffers from dementia and short-term memory loss -- never returned from his outing. His wife reported him missing to the Sheriff’s Office shortly after 7 a.m. on Tuesday.

On Tuesday morning, Truax turned up in Miami, where he was involved in a minor traffic accident. After completing the crash investigation, police released Truax from the scene and he headed northbound onto I-75, saying he was going home. He hasn’t been seen since.

Truax is 5’7” and weighs about 230 pounds, has medium length white hair and blue eyes and was last seen wearing blue jeans, a black shirt and a blue cap with the logo of J. Ray Patterson. He was driving a silver, 2009 four-door Mercury sedan with a Florida tag, 1022UI. Anyone who spots Truax or his vehicle is asked to call 911 immediately.

Update:

William Truax, the subject of Tuesday’s missing person/Silver Alert, has been recovered safe-n-sound. Truax was located in Monroe County, where he had run out of gas. He was reported to be in good health and was taken to a local hospital as a medical precaution. His wife is en-route to Monroe County to pick him up.

I had that happen 15+ years ago. I was working late at night at the office and heard a bunch of horns out front. The office was on a fairly busy highway. Looked out and saw a stalled car with no lights on. Went out and found the person: an ederly person who was having a problem communicating with me. Checked the car and it was out of gas. Called the police and they came out and pushed the car into our parking lot. Family came out and got the person. Thankfully, no one got hurt.
